Trump: I Did Not Know About Russia Meeting! Fake News!

Donald Trump Jr. has privately been voicing concerns that son Donald Trump Jr. may have inadvertently gotten into legal trouble amid special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe, and is also worried that the investigation could reach son-in-law and White House adviser Jared Kushner, The Washington Post reports.

The probe could ruin the lives of “innocent and decent people,” the president has told friends and advisers, according to the report.

But on Sunday morning, the president slammed the reporting as fake news.

“Fake News reporting, a complete fabrication, that I am concerned about the meeting my wonderful son, Donald, had in Trump Tower,” Trump wrote. “This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics – and it went nowhere. I did not know about it!”

Trump also once again slammed the Mueller probe in a subsequent tweet.

Trump Jr. is being looked at for his role in putting together a June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower with a Russian attorney promising dirt on then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. The president’s son has insisted he never told his father about the sit-down but Michael Cohen, Trump’s former longtime lawyer now under federal investigation, is reportedly ready to testify that Trump knew about it ahead of time.

In response to CNN’s report that Cohen was ready to flip on the president, Trump Jr.’s lawyer Alan Futerfas said his team had, “investigated this matter for over a year and are in command of the facts.”

“We are fully confident of the accuracy and reliability of the information that has been provided by Donald Trump Jr. in the various investigations,” he added.

Trump last Wednesday tweeted that Attorney General Jeff Sessions “stop this rigged witch hunt right now.” The president also questioned why investigators failed to tell him that his former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, was under investigation.

The president, according to the Post, has also been upset that his name continues to be brought up in reference to the Manafort probe, telling people the trial “has absolutely nothing to do with me.”
