The Yorkshire Derby will take place in Leeds
Josh Warrington’s next defence of his IBF featherweight world title against Kid Galahad will take place on May 4, according to Galahad’s representative Eddie Hearn.
Frank Warren won the purse bid to host the bout and is yet to officially announce the date and venue, though his rival promoter disclosed the information in an interview on Wednesday.
“May 4 is the fight,” Hearn told ThaBoxingVoice, “We bid $1.4million which was f***ing huge for that fight and he [Warren] bid $1.6million.”
Josh Warrington had a breakout year in 2018 with wins over Lee Selby (to become IBF champion) and Carl Frampton (in his first defence).
He had hoped to unify titles straight away in 2019, but instead must face his mandatory challenger Kid Galahad.
