The Dutchman also fended off competition from Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Eden Hazard to claim the prize
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been named Premier League Player of the Season.
The Dutchman, who was also voted PFA Player of the Year by his fellow professionals, pipped Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling to the award.
Other nominees included Liverpool team-mates Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, Manchester City stars Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva, as well as Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.
The winner was decided by a combination of fan polls, an expert panel, and the captains of the 20 Premier League clubs.

Van Dijk becomes the second successive Liverpool player to collect the prize following Salah’s extraordinary 2017/18 campaign.
Sterling, however, has not been left empty handed and a fine individual season has seen him named Football Writers’ Player of the Year.
Van Dijk and Sterling have been the Premier League’s standout performers, with Liverpool and City locked in a relentless race for the league title.
City have a one-point advantage on the final day and will retain their crown with victory at Brighton, while Liverpool must get a result against Wolves and hope for the best.
