Drake Pays Homage to Kanye West

Despite their ongoing feud, Drake still has respect for Kanye West.

While reflecting on the 10th anniversary of his mixtape So Far Gone, October’s Very Own acknowledged the G.O.O.D. Music rapper for the impact he’s had on his career.

“@kanyewest a decade ago I rapped over your beat cause you just made the best shit,” said Drake, “and even though you stay wildin on twitter these days I will never forget what you contributed to the game and my career.”

Drake sampled West’s 808s & Heartbreak song “Say You Will” on “Say What’s Real” off So Far Gone. He attempted to get the sample cleared last year in the midst of their beef, much to Kanye’s surprise. “This proves shit faker than wrestling,” said Ye, who shared a screenshot of the text message he received.

Their feud has played out on social media. During a Twitter rant in December, Kanye claimed Drake threatened his life. “Drake called trying to threatened me,” he tweeted. “So drake if anything happens to me or anyone from my family you are the first suspect.”

He also said Drake had been “bullying” him by dissing him on songs like French Montana’s “No Stylist” and Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode.” “Still need that apology for mentioning the 350s and trying to take food out your idols kids mouths,” he said before demanding an apology from Drake. “Sending purple emojis When I’m dealing with mental shit I need my apologies now Not through scooter either Not through Travis.”

Kanye has credited himself for paving the way for Drake. “When I go through shit he fucks with me and I’m his idol,” he tweeted. “I’m the guy with the pink polo that made a way for him. … There would never be a drake without a Kanye west so never come out your mouth with a threat.”

Prior to their beef, the two collaborated on songs including “Forever,” “Glow,” and “Pop Style.” Kanye also directed Drake’s video for “Best I Ever Had,” which appears on his mixtape So Far Gone. On Thursday (Feb. 14), the project will be released to streaming services for the first time in conjunction with the 10th anniversary.
