Congressional lawmakers will find it difficult to work with the seven Republican senators who voted to convict former President Donald Trump in the Senate impeachment trial, according to Rep. Madison Cawthorn, R-N.C. on Newsmax TV.

Cawthorn was asked on Tuesday’s “The Chris Salcedo Show” if people could work with Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah; Rep. Susan Collins, R-Maine; Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska; Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb.; Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa.; Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La.; and Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C.

“I don’t know how you work with Republicans like this in the future, because I just don’t know how you trust them,” Cawthorn told guest host John Bachman.

Cawthorn sounded most dismayed with fellow North Carolinian Burr.

“You see my home state Sen. Richard Burr, who literally said he thinks this impeachment is unconstitutional, yet then he turns right around and votes for it,” Cawthorn said.

“I don’t care what the evidence is. I don’t care what happened. If it’s unconstitutional, if the trial shouldn’t have happened, you should be voting against it. This sets a very dangerous precedent.”

Burr voted to convict Trump on Saturday, little more than three weeks after the Justice Department said it would not criminally charge him in connection with stock trades the senator executed soon after being briefed about COVID-19 last year.

Burr previously said he would not seek reelection to a fourth term in 2022.

“I think you see he’s just someone who turns his back on the ‘America First’ agenda,” Cawthorn said of Burr. “That’s very, very sad. He’s someone I used to look up to. He’s been my senator for almost my entire life.”
