Create Rewardful Referral Links in Minutes

A referral program only works when partners can share a working link without waiting on your team. Rewardful referral links give every affiliate a trackable URL tied to the right campaign and landing page.

The process is short. Set up the campaign, assign the affiliate link, test it in a clean browser, then record what happens after the click. Start with a small group of approved partners before you distribute links at scale.

START WITH A LIVE CAMPAIGN

Rewardful referral links need an active campaign. The campaign controls the reward rule, the tracked product or plan, and the affiliates who can promote it.

Open your Rewardful dashboard and confirm three items before you create or copy a link:

  1. Your Stripe account is connected.
  2. Your Rewardful tracking script is installed on the website.
  3. The campaign has the correct reward terms and landing-page destination.

Rewardful’s campaign settings overview is the right place to check tracking and reward controls. Menu labels can change, but the campaign is still the control center for your program.

Use a page that matches the partner’s promise

Send a product-review affiliate to a product or pricing page. Send a newsletter partner to a landing page built for that audience. Don’t point every partner at your homepage by default.

A vague destination creates weak conversion data. You may see clicks, but you won’t know whether the offer, page, or audience caused the drop-off.

A tracked click proves that the URL loaded. It does not prove that the visitor signed up, paid, or qualified for a reward.

CREATE REWARDFUL REFERRAL LINKS FOR EACH AFFILIATE

Rewardful gives each affiliate a unique token. The standard URL format uses the via parameter, such as https://yourdomain.com/?via=partnername.

Don’t use ?ref= unless your account has a separate legacy setup for it. Rewardful’s current tracking format uses ?via=, and old ?ref= URLs may not track by default.

1. Open the affiliate record

Go to the Affiliates area in Rewardful. Find the approved affiliate, then open their record.

Look for the Links tab or link section. Rewardful may adjust the dashboard layout, but you need the affiliate’s unique link token, not a generic campaign URL.

2. Copy the default link

Copy the link Rewardful provides. It should include the affiliate’s token after ?via=.

For example, an affiliate named Jamie might receive:

https://yourdomain.com/?via=jamie

Tokens should be simple. Use letters, numbers, and dashes. Avoid spaces, punctuation, and internal naming that exposes sensitive information.

3. Build a targeted destination link

Replace the base destination with a page that fits the promotion. Keep the via parameter intact.

For a webinar partner, use a webinar registration page. For a comparison-site partner, use the product comparison page. Add UTM parameters when you need channel reporting in Google Analytics or another analytics tool.

A working format might look like this:

https://yourdomain.com/pricing?via=jamie&utm_source=affiliate&utm_medium=partner

Put the Rewardful parameter first or later in the query string. Both can work if the URL is correctly formed with & between parameters.

4. Send the final URL with basic instructions

Give the partner one approved destination link, a short description of the offer, and the date it was checked. Don’t send a list of near-identical URLs with no owner or purpose.

For a customer referral program with non-standard rewards, check Rewardful’s custom rewards setup guidance before you invite customers. Customer incentives and affiliate commissions can use different rules.

TEST TRACKING BEFORE YOU SHARE THE LINK

A copied link is not ready until it passes a live test. Test every new campaign, destination page, and checkout change.

Run the test in a private browser

Open an incognito or private window. Disable ad blockers for the test if they block tracking scripts.

Paste the full referral URL. Let the page load. Click through your normal signup or checkout flow with a test email address.

Then return to Rewardful and check whether the referral visit or attribution appears. Test on both desktop and mobile when your partners have mobile-heavy audiences.

Check the payment path too

If you use Stripe Payment Links, confirm that the payment setup creates Stripe Customer records. Rewardful relies on customer data for attribution in that flow.

Don’t treat a landing-page visit as a full test. A referral can appear correctly at the click stage and still fail during checkout because of a missing script, changed domain, or payment configuration.

Keep a short test record with:

  • The campaign and affiliate token used.
  • The exact destination URL and UTM values.
  • Device, browser, test date, and result.
  • The person who checked the referral and payment path.

This record helps when a partner reports missing credit weeks later.

TRACK CLICKS, REFERRALS, AND REWARDS SEPARATELY

Clicks are useful. They are not revenue. A partner can send 500 visitors who never start a trial, or send 30 visitors who become high-value customers.

Create one row in a spreadsheet or database for each affiliate, campaign, destination URL, and reporting period. Record clicks, referred customers, pending rewards, approved rewards, reversals, and payout status.

Preserve corrections instead of overwriting them

A refund or canceled subscription can reverse a reward after the first report. Add an adjustment row with the date and reason. Don’t replace the old figure and lose the history.

Use this calculation for operating reports:

Net referral rewards = approved rewards - reversals

Review reward results by link, not only by affiliate. One partner may perform well on a pricing-page link and poorly on a broad homepage link.

If a valid customer was missed, Rewardful documents how to manually attribute a referred customer. Use manual attribution to correct an exception, not as a substitute for working tracking.

FIX THE COMMON LINK MISTAKES FAST

Most missing referral reports come from a short list of setup errors.

The first is a broken URL. Test the link after adding UTMs, redirects, or a new destination path. A single missing & can remove the referral parameter.

The second is the wrong parameter. Use ?via=token, not an old ?ref=token pattern.

The third is testing in a normal browser session. Existing cookies can attach the visit to another affiliate or hide a tracking problem. Use a private window every time.

The fourth is treating pending rewards as confirmed income. Keep pending, approved, reversed, and paid amounts in separate fields.

FINAL CHECK BEFORE PARTNERS PROMOTE

Rewardful referral links are simple to create, but they need disciplined handling. Build each link from the affiliate record, use a destination that matches the offer, and test the full path before distribution.

Your dashboard is the live operating view. Your test log and adjustment record are the history. Working attribution beats more links every time.
