Affiliate commission disputes rarely start at payout. They start when a founder says “lifetime” and the campaign pays only three invoices.
Lifetime commission software tracks a partner’s credit across subscription renewals. It works only when campaign rules, Stripe Customer records, checkout tracking, and payout controls agree.
Rewardful handles the lifetime model as uncapped recurring commission, not a separate “forever” switch. Set the commercial rule first. Then build the tracking path that proves each approved commission.
HOW LIFETIME COMMISSION SOFTWARE WORKS IN REWARDFUL
Lifetime is a commercial term, not a Stripe invoice type. In this model, an affiliate earns a percentage or fixed amount on every qualifying paid invoice while the referred subscription stays eligible.
Recurring commission describes payment behavior. Rewardful campaigns are recurring by default until the referred customer cancels. A lifetime offer is recurring commission with no payment-count or time limit. A one-time offer pays only the first qualifying invoice. A capped offer ends after a stated number of payments or months.
DEFINE THE COMMERCIAL END POINT
Don’t promise “lifetime” without naming the end point. Write rules for cancellation, failed payments, plan changes, refunds, chargebacks, account credits, and customers who cancel then return.
Affiliate attribution and payout eligibility are different records. Attribution identifies who referred the customer. Eligibility decides whether a later invoice still earns commission. Your campaign needs both rules.
For most SaaS teams, the right to earn ends when the paid subscription ends. A reactivation rule needs a written answer before a partner asks.
SET A RATE THAT SURVIVES RENEWALS
A 30% recurring deal looks easy until support, payment processing, hosting, and onboarding costs enter the calculation. Rewardful’s affiliate commission guide puts many SaaS programs in the 20% to 30% revenue-share range. Your gross margin and retention decide the rate you can keep paying.
Put the rate, commission currency, eligible plans, exclusions, and start date in the campaign record. Lifetime commission software cannot repair an offer that nobody defined.
CONNECT REWARDFUL TO STRIPE BEFORE INVITING PARTNERS
Connect Rewardful to the Stripe account that creates your subscription Customers and invoices. The authorization lets Rewardful use billing events for referrals, paid invoices, and refunds. Stripe is your financial record. Rewardful is the affiliate program record linked to it.
If you bill through separate Stripe accounts for regions or entities, define which account owns each campaign before launch. A partner should not need to guess which billing account pays a renewal.
CONFIRM OWNERSHIP AND ACCESS
Use a Stripe administrator or an approved integration owner. The Stripe permission requirements cover access Rewardful uses to create referrals from Customer data and calculate commissions.
Record the connector owner, approved Stripe account ID, connection date, and last access review. This gives your finance and support teams a clear starting point when an account link changes.
Keep employee orders, founder accounts, agency test purchases, and sales-assisted exceptions outside normal rules. A separate campaign or exception process prevents bad payouts from looking like product revenue.
INSTALL TRACKING ON THE FIRST LANDING PAGE
Install the Rewardful tracking script on every affiliate entry page. If marketing runs on one domain while checkout or the app runs on another, configure cross-domain tracking before partners share links.
A referral cookie that drops before checkout leaves you with revenue but no defensible attribution. Rewardful’s standard cookie duration is 60 days. Choose a window that matches your real buying cycle.
If a consent banner delays the script, test the post-consent path. Don’t assume the cookie exists because the page loaded.
CONFIGURE THE LIFETIME CAMPAIGN RULE
Create the campaign after the policy is approved. Choose a percentage-based or fixed commission. Percentage-based commissions fit most subscription offers because the payout follows collected revenue. Fixed payouts work when eligible plans have the same economics.
LEAVE THE PAYMENT CAP OPEN
In current Rewardful campaign settings, “Maximum commissions per customer” controls how many payments count for one referred customer. Leave it blank when the partner should earn on each paid renewal. Set it to one for a first-payment-only offer.
If you set both a commission period and a payment cap, the earlier limit stops commission creation. Review both fields before activating the campaign. Rewardful’s commission and cookie settings also cover one-time and recurring structures.
Uncapped recurring is your lifetime setup. It still stops when billing stops or an invoice no longer qualifies under your rules.
PLAN FOR REWARDFUL BILLING LIMITS
Rewardful’s public pricing currently lists Starter at $49 per month for up to $7,500 in monthly affiliate-generated revenue. Growth is $99 per month for up to $15,000. Enterprise starts at $149 per month above that level.
| Plan | Monthly price | Monthly affiliate revenue band |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $49 | Up to $7,500 |
| Growth | $99 | Up to $15,000 |
| Enterprise | From $149 | Above $15,000 |
These are billing thresholds, not payout settings. Campaign documentation shows the uncapped commission control, but it does not describe a separate lifetime-commission tier.
Plan details and interface controls can differ across accounts. Check your live plan, campaign screen, and payout options before you make terms public.
PROTECT ATTRIBUTION THROUGH STRIPE CHECKOUT
Browser tracking records the partner’s referral. Stripe confirms whether that referral led to collected revenue. You need both records.
A click, trial, signup, or dashboard lead does not prove a payable commission. The Stripe Customer and paid invoice do.
USE CUSTOMER OBJECTS FOR STRIPE PAYMENT LINKS
Stripe Payment Links need extra attention. Rewardful’s Payment Links setup instructions require “Save Payment Details for Future Use” so Stripe creates a Customer record that Rewardful can track.
Use the Rewardful script or Payment Links method that fits your checkout. Then test the real link. Do not test only the landing page.
Don’t treat the Stripe customer portal as an affiliate attribution repair tool. Use the original checkout path and linked Customer record as the evidence. Rewardful’s public guides do not describe a customer-facing portal for changing affiliate ownership.
COMMISSION ON COLLECTED REVENUE
Rewardful calculates commissions from the amount Stripe actually collects after discounts and account-balance debits. A $100 list price reduced by a $25 coupon produces $75 of commissionable revenue, not $100.
Set your coupon rule in advance. You can permit affiliate codes with promotional coupons, restrict the combination, or apply a different rate. The campaign, checkout, and affiliate terms must use the same rule.
Set an order of precedence for disputed claims. For example, decide whether a tracked referral, a partner coupon, or a manually approved sales record owns the commission. Don’t backfill affiliate ownership from an email screenshot without matching it to Stripe records.
TEST THE FIRST PAYMENT AND THE RENEWAL
Don’t treat a green script status as launch approval. You need evidence through the full sequence: referral, Stripe Customer, paid invoice, Rewardful commission, renewal, and payout review.
RUN ONE CONTROLLED REFERRAL PATH
Use an incognito or private browser. Open a test partner link, visit the landing page, and complete the approved checkout path. Rewardful uses the ?via=install path in its basic installation testing guidance.
Create a separate test record so your team can locate it later. Retain the affiliate ID, referral URL, Stripe Customer ID, subscription ID, invoice ID, paid amount, campaign name, and commission ID.
Check the records in order:
- Confirm the referral shows the expected partner and campaign.
- Confirm the first paid invoice uses the amount Stripe actually collected.
- Confirm the next paid renewal creates a commission with no unexpected cap.
- Confirm a cancellation, refund, or chargeback follows your stated policy.
TEST THE BAD PATHS TOO
Run cases that create payout correction work in real programs. Test an expired cookie, promotional coupon, self-referral, pre-existing Customer, cancelled subscription, and refund.
Mark the expected result before each test. An exception with no owner becomes a partner dispute.
The first commission proves initial tracking. Only a paid renewal proves the lifetime rule.
Do not open the program to all affiliate traffic until the test file matches the records in Stripe.
PAY ONLY APPROVED COMMISSIONS
Lifetime affiliate programs work when your team can explain every number. Keep partner-facing terms short, but keep the internal rules complete.
PUBLISH TERMS PARTNERS CAN CHECK
State these terms before accepting affiliates:
- The commission rate and whether it applies to each paid renewal or a limited term.
- Eligible plans, trial conversions, discounts, coupon combinations, and exclusions.
- The cookie window, self-referral ban, and existing-customer policy.
- Payout timing, pending period, refund reversals, chargebacks, cancellations, and dispute process.
Don’t use “lifetime” as a blanket promise. Write the actual rule. For example, “We pay 20% of net collected subscription revenue for each eligible paid renewal while the account remains active.”
RECONCILE AND HOLD EXCEPTIONS
Before each payout run, compare a weekly sample between Rewardful and Stripe. Check the partner, Customer, paid invoice, amount collected, commission amount, and refund status. Rewardful’s Stripe payout process explains how billing events affect commission calculations.
Hold a commission when the referral is disputed, the payment is refunded, or the Customer link is missing. Record the customer email, partner ID, campaign, Stripe object IDs, source evidence, decision, owner, and follow-up date.
Keep the original attribution record unchanged. Store the reviewer decision separately. This gives your team a usable history when a partner questions a payment months later.
Keep the last trusted commission report before each payout run. If a checkout deployment breaks attribution, pause automatic approvals and use manual review until the connection is fixed. If you need help mapping Stripe data, terms, and exception handling, Book A Call.
BUILD A COMMISSION PROGRAM FINANCE CAN VERIFY
Rewardful makes lifetime commissions a recurring campaign with no cap, attached to Stripe Customer and paid invoice records. The commercial promise still needs a rate, end point, checkout test, refund rule, and reconciliation process.
Set the payment cap blank only when uncapped recurring payouts fit your unit economics. Then test a real renewal and pay only from records your team can trace.
Lifetime commission software is useful when affiliates, finance, and Stripe show the same result.
