A partner link can look correct and still fail to credit the right person. The usual cause is not the affiliate. It is a campaign URL, tracking setting, or test process that was never checked.
Rewardful partner links work best when every partner has a clear destination, one attribution rule, and a record your team can audit. Configure the campaign first. Then give partners links that match the page they are promoting.
Set the campaign before you create links
In Rewardful, a campaign controls referral tracking and rewards. It also supplies the base website URL used to generate affiliate links for partners assigned to that campaign.
Go to Campaigns, open the relevant campaign, and select Edit campaign. Dashboard labels can change by UI version, so look for the campaign edit screen and its advanced settings if the wording differs.
Separate campaign settings from website settings
Set the campaign’s website URL to the main page you want new affiliate links to use. For example, a campaign may use your homepage, product page, or pricing page as its base URL.
Your website integration is separate. The Rewardful tracking script must be installed on the site where visitors land and later convert. Your payment processor connection and checkout tracking also need to work before you invite partners.
Don’t try to solve a missing script with a different link format. A clean URL cannot repair a website that does not record referral visits.
Choose the attribution rule early
Open Advanced Settings and review Affiliate Attribution. Rewardful documents two choices:
- First-touch attribution gives credit to the first affiliate link a visitor clicks.
- Last-touch attribution gives credit to the most recent qualifying affiliate link.
Set the rule before partners begin promoting. Changing it later can create disputes when two partners send the same prospect.
Also review the Cookie window. Rewardful’s public materials describe a 60-day default window, but each campaign should be checked before launch. The cookie window is the period when a clicked referral can still receive credit after the visit.
A recorded click proves that a visitor used a link. It does not prove that the visitor completed an eligible signup or payment.
Configure Rewardful partner links for the right page
Rewardful affiliate URLs use a ?via= parameter followed by the partner’s token. If an affiliate token is sam, a standard referral URL looks like https://yourdomain.com/?via=sam.
The token identifies the partner. The page before the parameter controls where the visitor lands.
Give partners deep links, not random variations
A partner writing about your reporting feature should link to that feature page. Add the same ?via= value to the destination:
https://yourdomain.com/reporting?via=sam
This is the practical way to configure Rewardful partner links for different offers, landing pages, or content placements. It keeps the partner identifier intact while sending the visitor to a relevant page.
Use links only on pages where the Rewardful script runs. Test every deep link on desktop and mobile. A pricing page that redirects to a separate checkout domain needs its tracking configuration checked across both domains.
Rewardful supports cross-domain tracking through its script configuration. If your signup, app, and checkout run on different domains, involve the person who manages your website code before distributing links.
Add approved links inside the affiliate portal
You can also place extra approved URLs in the affiliate portal. In the campaign editor, open Advanced Settings and locate Affiliate dashboard text. Add the destination URL using Rewardful’s {{affiliate.default_token}} variable where the partner token belongs.
This gives partners useful options without asking them to edit URLs by hand. Add a short label for each link, such as “Product demo page” or “Annual plan page.”
Don’t promise branded short links, custom tracking domains, or unrestricted URL formats unless your account has a documented feature for them. Use Rewardful’s supported token format and test the result.
Use campaign URLs for UTM reporting
Rewardful attribution and your analytics reporting answer different questions. The via token tells Rewardful which partner referred the visitor. UTM parameters help Google Analytics or another analytics tool show the channel, placement, or promotion type.
For a partner group that needs shared reporting tags, create a separate campaign and set its campaign URL with the required UTM parameters. Rewardful’s guide on adding UTM parameters to affiliate links uses this campaign-level approach.
A tagged URL may look like this:
https://yourdomain.com/demo?utm_source=affiliate&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=launch&via=sam
Keep the naming rules fixed. Use one spelling for campaign names. Do not mix partner, affiliate, and referral for the same source unless they mean different things.
For content-level reporting, use a separate analytics parameter that your team can review consistently. Rewardful’s click-tracking guidance recommends a defined parameter structure so you can compare placements without guessing.
Test tracking before partners publish
Run a controlled test for every new campaign, deep-link pattern, or domain change. Treat the test like a real partner journey.
Test the complete referral path
Use a private browser window or a fresh browser profile. Click the partner’s referral link, confirm the correct destination loads, then complete your normal signup or purchase test.
Check the Rewardful dashboard for the referral, conversion, and reward status. Then record the result in a test log.
Include these fields:
- Campaign name and partner name.
- Full destination page and referral token.
- Test date, browser, and device.
- Expected attribution result and actual dashboard result.
- Any redirect, cookie, or checkout issue found.
If you use last-touch attribution, run a second test after clicking another partner link. If you use first-touch attribution, confirm the first valid referral remains credited. Clear browser data between tests so an old cookie does not distort the result.
Rewardful’s affiliate program launch checklist also recommends testing the journey before inviting affiliates.
Review performance and fix weak links
Track clicks, referred signups, approved rewards, reversals, and paid commissions separately. A partner may generate many clicks but few eligible customers. Another may generate fewer clicks and stronger revenue.
Review results by campaign, partner, destination page, UTM campaign, and date range. This shows whether the issue is traffic quality, a weak landing page, or a broken tracking path.
Keep the original record when a reward reverses. Add an adjustment row with the date and reason. Do not overwrite the first result. Your affiliate manager, finance owner, and support contact need the same history.
For a multi-domain setup, a migration, or recurring attribution disputes, Book A Call before expanding the program.
Final checks before you share a link
Reliable Rewardful partner links start with the campaign, not a copied URL. Set the attribution model and cookie window. Confirm the website script works. Then create deep links that send visitors to the page that matches the promotion.
A short test log prevents long arguments later. When every link, campaign, and conversion has a clear record, partner reporting becomes easier to trust.
